But of all those ridiculous phrases that I heard and read thousands of times, there was one that really did speak the truth, and that phrase was, 'The Truth Will Set You Free." Because when I was blessed to wake up from the brainwashed stupor that AA had lulled me into over the years, I discovered the truth that Alcoholics Anonymous and the twelve steps were lies. The Lord opened my eyes and I saw that I had been completely duped into joining a cult and had turned my back on the only truth there is in this universe which is the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. And when I surrendered completely to Him and trusted in Him - I was truly free!
Isn't it interesting that those in Alcoholics Anonymous so often use the phrase, 'The Truth Will Set You Free", which is from the scriptures, yet the program of Alcoholics Anonymous completely contradicts the Christian Gospel message found in the scriptures? And what is even more interesting is to read the words of Jesus in John 8:32, "and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Then, for proper context take a look at the preceding verse John 8:31, "...'If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,'". Jesus is telling us that if we abide in His word, which is to receive His word, hold on to it, obey it, not to be moved from it, then we are truly His disciples, and we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. Alcoholics Anonymous could not use John 8:31 because the whole false gospel message of AA completely contradicts Jesus' word, so they had to use a portion of John 8:32 completely out of context.
But isn't the power of God's word amazing in that one phrase from John 8:32, "The Truth Will Set You Free" used by a heretical program like Alcoholics Anonymous still proves to be true and powerful when we wake up to the lies of Alcoholics Anonymous and see the only truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and are finally set free?
